Mesh Grease Filters for Commercial Kitchen Use

Posted on 16th May 2010 @ 6:33 PM

Mesh grease filters are designed for commercial kitchen ventilation systems.

There a number of different filters used in kitchen ventilation systems and extraction canopies: the mesh grease filter, the carbon grease filter, the steel baffle filter and the aluminium grease filter for example. If you are unsure which grease filter is right for your ventilation system, consulting a commercial kitchen equipment specialist can help. Mesh grease filters are made to cope with the demands of a commercial kitchen. But the kinds of filters you buy depends on the amount of cooking your kitchen does. Mesh grease filters are not just important to help reduce fire risks by removing grease particles, but are important tools for providing adequate ventilation for food preparation areas so dishes are not contaminated by grease or odours.

Mesh Grease Filters for Commercial Extraction Systems

Filters primarily reduce grease that my infect kitchens by drawing it up into the extract duct. Mesh grease filters are made from frames with safety edges – metal meshes - that overlap to literally filter through the grease from the air – the mesh grease filters capture the grease which falls down the blades into dedicated drain holes with collection trays. It's possible to buy mesh grease filters in different finishes – stainless steel, galvanised steel, brushed stainless steel and aluminium. The mesh grease filter is one of just six grease filters available for commercial kitchen use:

  • The Mesh Grease Filters – the mesh grease filters require regular cleaning, and are suitable for low levels of grease. The mesh grease filters are therefore not suitable for high-fat cooker appliances such as deep-fat fryers. Mesh grease filters will need to be regularly replaced after over-cleaning will eventually lead to the deterioration of the internal mesh.

  • Baffle Filters – more efficient than mesh grease filters – suitable for cooking with moderate grease-load applications. Baffle filters should only be made out of stainless steel.

  • Cartridge Filters – Again made from stainless steel, suitable for moderate to heavy grease-load applications.

  • Water wash – An advanced filter using automatic internal washing cycles.

  • Continuous water mist – For heavy grease-load applications. These filters need plumbing in and are an expensive high-end option.

  • Ultraviolet UV-C – Is said to give a 98% grease and odour elimination efficiency.

If you are unsure about the kinds of filters your commercial kitchen needs, whether it be mesh grease filters or baffle filters, there are dedicated commercial kitchen equipment suppliers who can help.
