The Merlin 1500GD is a gas/ventilation interlock panel which is used when gas pressure proving is not a requirement. It ensures that the ventilation system is operational before allowing gas to be present in the kitchen It can work with up to four fans and can monitor the fans using either current switches of air pressure differential switches.

BS6173:2009 states that if a commercial kitchen is being refurbished, or fitted out as new, the ventilation system should be interlocked with the gas solenoid valve to ensure gas is not available if the ventilation system is not working.
